2024 HGTV Designer of the Year awards (1)

BIG NEWS! We are beyond thrilled to share that Copper Sky has been named HGTV’s 2024 Designer of the Year! This prestigious award honors the top design talent in the nation across six categories, celebrating projects that push creative boundaries and set new standards for excellence. We were truly humbled to be in the running with such amazing designers and firms.

The judges were wowed by the bold design risks we took—decisions that might have seemed unconventional at first but ultimately paid off in spectacular fashion. Our work stood out for its fearless creativity and meticulous execution. Each space told a unique story, perfectly balancing the era of the home with modern flair. This award is a testament to the trust our clients place in us and the dedication of our team to creating designs that are anything but ordinary. A huge thank you goes out to our Director of Design, Micaela Quinton, and the entire team that brought this vision to life. Check out our blog where we talk more about the project that stood out among the competition.

  • GOLD: Outdoor Spaces – With a simple modest rear patio, the homeowners of this Ansley Park home longed for better entertainment spaces and better indoor/outdoor flow. This renovation transformed the homeowners' outdoor space into a poolside oasis complete with an upper deck addition and an inviting porch with retractable screens.

  • GOLD: Best Small-Scale Remodel – Built in 2007, this Chastain Park home was not short on space, but the design was dated and lacked the sophistication the client desired. Much of the first floor was included in this renovation, completed in early 2024, including the kitchen, butler’s pantry, primary bathroom and closet, and a pool bathroom.

  • GOLD: Powder Room – Located in the historic Poncey-Highland neighborhood of Atlanta, this powder bath was part of a larger home renovation. By reconfiguring the existing footprint of the home, space was created to add a powder room to the first floor which previously did not exist. The design of the powder room was inspired by the original elements of this 1913 Craftsman home.

  • GOLD: Interior Use of Stone – This kitchen design aimed to incorporate contrast and mixed materials. The island features two distinct sections: a seating area with a limestone countertop, and a food prep section boasting a beautiful white oak countertop. Limestone, porous stone, is an unusual material for countertops. Our team found an innovative surface protection treatment called TuffSkin to ensure it will remain beautiful and functional for years to come.

  • SILVER: Bath under 150 sq. ft. – This renovation is a shining example of a marriage of modern convenience and timeless beauty: a bathroom that is both functional and visually stunning. The careful selection of materials and fixtures ensures that this small bathroom remains a true gem within this historic home, honoring its past while providing a serene and stylish retreat for its residents.

  • BRONZE: Interior Use of Color – One of our latest mid-century modern boasts vibrant color choices. The neutral walls and uniform cabinetry ground the use of the bold colors of the tile backsplash. The tile collection showcases 38 matte color choices which have a handcrafted surface aesthetic.

  • BRONZE: Historic Renovation – This historic home renovation in Poncey-Highland aimed to blend traditional Craftsman style with modern functionality. The project focused on maintaining and enhancing the existing architectural features while introducing modern amenities to meet the homeowner's desire for contemporary living. Improving spatial functionality and flow was crucial, leading to the design of open-plan living areas, efficient storage solutions, and updated kitchen and bathroom facilities.
