Nestled in the heart of Buckhead's Chastain Park neighborhood is a 2007-built home that underwent a breathtaking transformation that exudes effortless sophistication. Guided by Copper Sky Design + Remodel, this renovation was recognized with gold honors at the 2024 Georgia Design Awards, hosted by Atlanta Magazine, for best small-scale remodel, and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association OBIE Awards for its exceptional kitchen design.
Project Overview
This elevated transitional Chastain Park renovation encompassed multiple areas of the home, including the kitchen, butler's pantry, primary bathroom and closet, poolside powder room, and the addition of an outdoor grill station. Based on our clients' insights, the design focused on balancing indoor and outdoor spaces by introducing architectural elements, new fixtures, and charming upgrades.
Client Priorities and Challenges
While this Chastain Park home offered ample space, the dated construction lacked the effortless sophistication the family desired. After speaking with the homeowners, we determined that the goal was to maintain as much of the original layout as possible while reconfiguring key spaces to better suit their lifestyle and improve the home's overall aesthetic.
Key Design Elements:
A Kitchen Designed for Connection and Sophistication
Though spacious, the original kitchen lacked the polished, ageless charm the clients envisioned. The removal of an awkward corner pantry and redesign of the refrigerator cabinet wall allowed for a tea and coffee bar to be nestled between the new Sub-Zero column refrigerator and freezer. The appliance tower and prep sink adjacent to the beverage station provide easy access to hot filtered water and establishes a designated zone for small appliances. 
When entering the kitchen, you can't help but admire the custom plaster range hood. The one-of-a-kind hood was creatively designed with a curvature that mirrors the striking veining of the Danby Marble countertops and backsplashes. In the center of the kitchen, we installed a unique island with an integrated table that was a direct request of the clients who were looking for a more casual and conversational space for weekday meals.
A classic 2000’s home element, the bill paying station, was also removed, and replaced by a custom designed buffet meant to mimic the look and feel of a furniture hutch with antique glass doors and modern furniture legs. The finishes of this piece feel unique to the kitchen but are replicated from the butler’s pantry between the hall and dining room.
Aesthetically, much of the heavy traditional crown and molding were removed to create a lighter, cleaner feel. The custom cabinetry design brought some traditional detailing back into the kitchen, providing continuity with the rest of the home.
To create a more open flow, a large, cased opening between the kitchen and keeping room was replaced by a wood-wrapped beam. This new feature created a visual connection to the wood of the kitchen island and the wood collar ties that were added to the keeping room. The kitchen material palette was driven and inspired by the bold veining and contrast of the Danby Marble used for all the back splashes and countertops. A brassy- bronze finish was selected for all metals to bring additional warmth to the space
The Butler’s Pantry: Timeless Functionality
The home's design story is continued in the butler's pantry, adjacent to the kitchen. The butler's pantry mirrors the buffet's aesthetic, with cabinetry featuring antique glass detailing that evokes a stunning vintage feel. The custom-sourced hammered copper sink complements the marble countertop and adds character to the space, while paneled refrigerator drawers add functionality.

A Luxurious Primary Bathroom and Closet
The primary bathroom is a masterclass in enduring design. Checkerboard marble flooring in shades of gray and white provides a striking foundation, while an arched entry frames a glass-enclosed shower with polished nickel fixtures and pristine subway tiles, creating an architectural focal point. Shaker-style cabinetry integrates ample storage while maintaining a clean and refined aesthetic.
We also paired light-painted cabinetry with richly stained dark wood in the vanity area, achieving a stark and elegant contrast. Polished nickel hardware and wall-mounted faucets accentuate the sophistication of this space, while marble countertops extend into a full-height backsplash for a cohesive, opulent look.
The bathroom also features integrated storage towers that maximize organization without compromising the area's streamlined look. Beyond the bathroom, a pocketed door leads to a custom walk-in closet offering tailored shelving and drawers to meet every organizational need.
A Powder Bath for Poolside Convenience
The addition of a powder bath with access to the pool area enhances the home’s appeal and makes the space incredibly functional. We designed this area with ample storage for pool essentials like towels and swimsuits, which ensures the space combines practicality with refined design to serve both indoor and outdoor living.
Updated Keeping Room and Living Room Features
As part of the larger renovation, we focused heavily on creating a greater connection between the inside and outside spaces. The keeping room doors were replaced with a 4-panel multi-slide door and the French doors of the living room were replaced with a 14-foot accordion door which opens out on to the homeowner's screened porch, overlooking the brand new, pristine pool.
An Outdoor Grill Station
For this Atlanta family, outdoor living was paramount. To embrace the city’s warm spring and summer evenings, the remodel included the addition of an outdoor grill station. This station is perfect for entertaining friends or quiet family dinners, and it doesn’t hurt that it enhances the home’s connection to its beautifully landscaped surroundings.
