Universal design leaves at least 36 inches between furniture and fixtures to accommodate wheelchair users; it also includes lowering the countertop, light switches, and faucet fixtures a few inches, so they are accessible from a seated position. 

Furthermore, a curbless walk-in shower with an adjustable showerhead, a fold-out seat, and a bi-directional glass door are typical options for accessible bathrooms. Grab bars provide extra support for sitting or standing, with a comfort height toilet and bidet.  Of course, nothing about this design is meant to look like an obvious retrofit, so you’ll still get a beautiful, seamless look that remains practical for you over time.
