How Much Does it Cost to Remodel a Bathroom in Atlanta? [Updated 2022]

Are you noticing cracked caulk, chipped tiles, dirty grout, leaky fixtures, mildew, mold, and the like? Then, odds are it’s time for you to invest in a bathroom remodel. But knowing you want to remodel and making it happen are two entirely different things. You’ll need to plan carefully. And, since the cost is one of the most important variables to consider, you’ll need accurate local estimates for Atlanta, GA bathroom remodeling projects to help guide your planning.

This 2022 Remodeling Magazine Cost vs Value Report is a good starting point. In addition to providing cost estimates for a variety of Atlanta remodeling projects, the report provides accompanying descriptions for each project, as well as resale value and cost recouped estimates. We’ll get into the details of each project and bathroom costs in Atlanta below, but we encourage you to look over the report for more context.

It's important to note that the costs included in this report are averages based on assumptions on scope, selections, and other variables.  When working with a full-service design-build firm such as Copper Sky, architectural and design fees are typically also factored in when estimating total project costs.

Before we get started, a quick note:

Over the years, the Copper Sky Design + Remodel team has done renovation work on many bathrooms in the Atlanta area. Costs can range widely and even reach over $100,000, depending on a few factors:

  • Age of the home
  • Current bathroom condition
  • The scale of the renovation
  • Quality of materials and finish selections
  • Homeowner’s personal tastes and specifications

So, take a moment to contemplate the current state of your bathroom and what you hope to accomplish with your remodel. Say, for example, you are interested in remodeling your shower in Atlanta. The cost of a tile walk-in shower is likely to be much more than a prefabricated shower-and-tub combo. It’s up to you to make these kinds of discernments while keeping your project and budget on track. Keep these factors in mind, as whatever direction you decide to go will impact your overall cost. Alright, we’re done with the foreword— on to the good stuff!

Upscale Bathroom Remodel Cost

If you’re looking to make major changes in your bathroom’s functionality, layout, or style, an upscale remodel is what you'll need. You can expect to pay about three times more than you would for a midrange remodel, as the scope and finish selections would likely be more expansive and upscale.

Your new fixtures could include a frameless glass shower with ceramic tile, a freestanding tub, a double sink custom vanity, and a commode area with a one-piece toilet. You might also consider other luxury details such as radiant floor heating, high-end faucets and shower fixtures, or anything else you can dream up!

Upscale bathroom remodels typically start around $75,000.

Universal Design Bathroom Remodel

Those wanting to shift to a design that will allow you to age in place should opt for a universal design remodel. This type of remodeling focuses on accessibility, making sure you have plenty of room to move and transition from one space to another in the bathroom. Universal design leaves at least 36 inches between furniture and fixtures to accommodate wheelchair users; it also includes lowering the countertop, light switches, and faucet fixtures a few inches, so they are accessible from a seated position.

Furthermore, a curbless walk-in shower with an adjustable showerhead, a fold-out seat, and a bi-directional glass door are typical options for accessible bathrooms. Grab bars provide extra support for sitting or standing, with a comfort height toilet and bidet.  Of course, nothing about this design is meant to look like an obvious retrofit, so you’ll still get a beautiful, seamless look that remains practical for you over time.

Bathroom Additions

Sometimes a bathroom remodel just isn’t enough, and you need a bathroom addition. This will likely be the case if too many family members are using the same small bathroom, causing morning backups and everyday headaches. The cost to add a primary bathroom is largely dependent upon the amount of added square footage, and whether the bathroom is being expanded into existing space or if it's truly an addition to the home.

Every Home is Unique

As we mentioned earlier, no bathroom remodeling projects are identical. Still, having these average estimates in mind provides a good starting point and will enable you to adjust your goals as necessary. It can also be helpful to meet with bathroom remodelers in Atlanta to get an idea of how your own design ideas will influence the cost estimates for your individual project.
