Project Spotlight: A Refined Buckhead Kitchen and Outdoor Retreat
Located in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood, this renovation thoughtfully updated key living spaces throughout the home. The project included a redesigned kitchen, new screened porch, and expanded outdoor areas, each planned to improve function while complementing the home’s existing character. The result is a warm, well-balanced home designed for everyday living and entertaining.
A Buckhead Kitchen with Lasting Appeal
This Buckhead kitchen renovation balances classic architecture with a fresh, livable approach. The finished space feels warm, layered, and inviting, with thoughtful details that add depth and personality. Creative storage solutions are integrated throughout the kitchen, helping the space function efficiently while maintaining a clean, polished look.
At the center of the kitchen is a generously sized island with wraparound seating, designed to support everything from casual mornings to larger gatherings. Custom patinaed brass legs add a tailored element and give the island a more furniture-like presence.
Throughout the room, arched details, mixed finishes, and thoughtfully chosen lighting bring dimension and interest, giving the space a collected and natural feel.

Refined Materials and Thoughtful Details
The kitchen’s material palette was chosen to feel timeless while still offering contrast and texture.
At the range wall, the countertop extends upward as a backsplash before transitioning into tile, creating a clean and cohesive focal point. A custom plaster hood softens the elevation, while a soldier course tile detail above the windows introduces subtle architectural interest.
Two-toned cabinetry adds warmth and dimension, while antique mirrored glass at the built-in hutch reflects light and enhances the room’s brightness. The overall effect is polished, comfortable, and designed to age well.
Working Within the Existing Floorplan
While the finished kitchen feels open and effortless, the design process required careful planning. An existing staircase fixed the footprint in place, limiting opportunities for major structural changes. Rather than expanding the room, the focus shifted to making the existing space function better.
A former desk nook was transformed into a recessed pantry, adding valuable storage without interrupting the cabinetry line. At the dining room opening, a cabinet pass-through made it possible to create a continuous run of cabinetry, helping the room feel more connected and spacious.

Extending the Home Outdoors
The renovation also included a new screened porch and open deck, creating additional living space at the rear of the home.
The porch features a vaulted tongue-and-groove ceiling in a light wood finish, along with arched openings that relate back to the architecture of the house. A custom cast-stone fireplace anchors the room, while louvered arched windows on either side provide privacy and airflow. Copper lanterns and a large ceiling fan add comfort and ambiance, allowing the space to be used throughout much of the year.

Designed for Entertaining
Just beyond the porch, the deck offers generous space for dining, lounging, and hosting. A dedicated grill and smoker station make outdoor cooking easy, while copper gas lanterns continue the material palette established inside the porch.

A new stairway connects the deck to the patio and landscaped backyard below, creating an easy flow between each outdoor area. Together, these additions expand the home’s livability while preserving its character.
